While taking a routine night stroll with one of the greatest people I’ve ever known the topic of choices came up. She and I talked about how, although we can’t choose our emotions, we can choose how we deal with situations and trials we are put through. Life is not always going to be easy no matter how hard we try to make it that way. We are going to come to tough times, but we have a choice to react in a way that glorifies God and to grow from our trials rather than let them tear us apart. She also mentioned 2nd Timothy 1:7 “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” What a powerful verse. God gave us power to be content with our trials knowing that He has conquered all. Our situations don’t control our reactions. We have the choice. We don’t control our emotions, but we do control whether or not we’re going to dwell on negativity and let our surroundings consume us or we’re going to rise up and glorify God even in the trenches. I’m thankful life isn’t easy.
